You want to start getting back into shape. Great! Where do you start? There are so many options these days when it comes to fitness and many people have no idea where to start. You’ve got traditional strength training, yoga, spin classes, and other boutique fitness trends popping up everywhere.
Which should you choose?
The sheer number of options often leads to paralysis by analysis. Instead of picking something, you may spend a lot of time researching each one and trying to figure out which one you may like best. What starts off as a few minutes on Google ends up in months of weighing pros and cons of each option.
You’ve spent all this time researching, yet you’ve spent no time exercising. You then throw your hands up in the air and decide that you’ll revisit the idea a few months down the road.
This scenario is all too common.
Here’s the solution.
Just pick something. If that’s too hard, write all the names on a piece of paper, put them in a hat, and pick one. Start with that.
Don’t worry about finding the “perfect” option right off the bat. Choose anything and just get started. It doesn’t matter whether you decide to go to a personal trainer or decide to play pickup basketball 3 times per week. Commit to something and give it a shot. After a month or 2 you can decide whether you want to switch gears.
Getting started is the toughest part. Instead of analyzing, act. You’ll build some momentum and then you can start experimenting with different options.
